How Do I Know If I Have Hearing Loss?

Hearing loss can vary greatly from person to person. Thinking about yourself, a friend or a family member, answer the following questions:

1. Is it hard to understand what is being said at lectures or church services?

2. While in a quiet conversation with your doctor in an examination room, is it hard to follow the discussion?

3. When listening to the news on the car radio and family members are talking, do you have trouble hearing the news?

4. Are certain sounds uncomfortably loud – such as running water, construction work, traffic noises, sirens or alarms?

5. Is it difficult to understand others when an air conditioner or fan is on?

6. Is it hard to follow the dialogue in a movie or at the theatre?

7. Do you often ask people to repeat themselves?

8. Do people seem to mumble when they talk?

9. Have you been told that you speak loudly or play the TV too loudly?

10. Is it hard to communicate with others when in a crowded room?
